Organization's Purpose: Volunteers are a valuable resource in public schools. Parents, grandparents, older students and community members assist in many ways in schools: A volunteer may help a struggling student learn to read or support a marching band's fundraising efforts to purchase new uniforms. A volunteer may work "behind the scenes" helping a teacher develop resources for classroom learning or serve on an advisory board.
When parents and community members become actively involved in helping students achieve, everyone benefits! Volunteers receive warm thanks from staff and students and appreciate knowing they are contributing to student achievement.
Volunteers Opportunities: Contact your neighborhood school or the district's volunteer office to learn more about present needs. Volunteers are often needed to help students with reading or math, assist the school librarian, help in the school's computer lab, work with the district's Art Heritage Program or other areas.
