S.O.S Program (Supporting Our Seniors): Volunteers provide services, and in return receive credits that they can use in the future for the same types of services. Volunteers can use the credits themselves or donate them to a relative, neighbor or friend. Volunteers provide services that enable elderly or disabled adults remain independent at home. Services may include friendly visits or calls, writing letters, shopping, errands, and transportation.
Volunteers can also earn credit by providing transportation for foster care children.

Organization's Purpose: RSVP's purpose is to help people 55 and over become involved in meaningful volunteer opportunities in order to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others in our community.
Volunteer Opportunities: Our one hundred and five agencies (volunteer stations) utilize our senior volunteers and provide a wide range of opportunities for seniors to use their skills, interests, talents and loving hearts in service to others. In addition to the stations where we place volunteers Mesa County RSVP, Inc. has four Signature Projects. They are:
- Senior Scholar Project: This is a tutoring program which pairs an RSVP volunteer with students that need help in subjects like reading or math. Volunteers work under the supervision of a teacher in both public and private schools providing one-on-one academic assistance to children in K-12 grades. Free tutor training is provided by the RSVP Senior Scholar Project. Volunteers directly impact the lives and learning of our children.
- Handyman Project: This project works with senior volunteers that provide minor home repair service to limited income seniors, the frail elderly and individuals with disabilities. Handyman volunteers provide repairs that add to the safety, comfort and welfare of these individuals in order to help them maintain their dignity and independence. Handyman volunteers directly impact others in the community who are in need.
- Homeland Defense Project: This project works with senior volunteers who want to be part of the solution rather than part of the problem in any kind of emergency. Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers take 24 hours of basic emergency preparedness training and attend monthly team meetings for advanced training. In addition, they work to help prepare others that are in higher risk categories (day care providers, seniors and the disabled) become better prepared to take care of themselves during any kind of emergency. They also train to be of assistance to community first responders, if asked.
- One Time Projects: If you are looking for flexibility in your volunteer activity, this is the project for you. You can have variety, fun, limited commitment, and flexibility. Signing up for this project gives you the opportunity to try many different things with a lot of different community agencies and provide much needed temporary assistance that all agencies need from time to time. Jobs could be doing a mass mailing, helping with community fundraisers, fairs, festivals. It could also be temporary office assistance for a special project. This is a good way to have fun and meet a lot of new people. Many diverse opportunities are available

In addition to working each station, volunteers are encouraged to interact with guests in order to provide an emotional supportive environment. Our aim is to make friends with our homeless guests so they feel that society has not abandoned them. Volunteers need to be stable members of the community who have the ability to relate constructively with those less fortunate than themselves. Hours 7:30 am - 12:30 pm Mon-Fri.
